Your skin absorbs up to 60% of any lotion or potion that comes into contact with it, so it is always important to consider what skin care products you are using. In South Africa you can easily buy rooibos soap, and many homes have other creams and lotions containing this herb. However it is not so readily available in England and we think it should be. We have carefully chosen The Natural Soap Company in Norfolk, to make our exclusive soap. They uphold our ethics in refusing to include any artificial additives to their products. Redbush Soap contains only the very finest ingredients and we use no chemicals, preservatives, artificial fragrances or colouring. Early in 2006 we made the decision due to environmental concerns about the destruction of rainforests in Sumatra and Borneo, to switch to a sustainable Colombian palm oil. (For more details on this please see) Some of you have asked how we discovered the recipe that makes our soap so special - well very simply we asked you! To make sure that we provided you with the exact soap that you needed we conducted a pilot survey of a large number of our customers and asked them to trial the soap for us and to let us have their feed back. The response was overwhelming, 100% told us that they loved the soap and would buy it just as it is. They agreed with us that a naturally pure soap should be simply that. The contents of each bar are as follows; Distilled water (Aqua) infused with rooibos Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) Olive oil (Sodium olivate) Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii) Coconut oil (Sodium cocoate) Palm oil (Sodium palmate) Sodium hydroxide It is interesting to note that most of the soaps and creams actually include harmful ingredients that can worsen skin conditions. We have consciously chosen not to include products such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) a surfactant present in most soap and shampoos, as it can be a skin, eye and respiratory irritant. Not particularly something we would like our customers to have absorbed by their skin; the largest organ of the body. It can also for example damage the immune system, cause separation of skin layers and cause inflammation to the skin. (Resource: Journal of the American College of Toxicology; Vol. #2, No. 7, 1983.) In fact the best use for SLS is as a concrete cleaner, engine degreaser and an ingredient in car wash detergents. Other chemicals we have also omitted which are sometimes included in soaps are alcohol, which dries the skin, and propylene glycol, which apart from soaps is more extensively used for commercial and industrial purposes. It is also used in anti freeze, and as a component in brake fluid and in the preparation of varnishes and synthetic resins. We thought you would really rather we left that out! Redbush Exfoliating Soap contains all the qualities you love of the original Redbush Soap, but with the added bonus of three pure essential oils. Rosemary oil is known to stimulate the circulation and is ideal for aching joints and muscles. It is also excellent for oily skin. Mandarin oil helps relieve signs of dull skin, wrinkles and scars; and it is an aid in helping control acne. And the third pure lemon essential oil, is refreshing and stimulating. It has excellent antiseptic properties and may help with broken capillaries and varicose veins. Lemon oil is also believed to relieve a tired and exhausted mind! The contents of our exfoliating soap are the same as above plus we have added the following essential oils and finely ground rooibos. Lemon (Citrus limonum) Rosemary (Rosamarinus officinalis) Mandarin (Citrus nobilis) Cinnamal, limonene, linalool Redbush Soap We recommend that you use our soap on your face, hands and body, in order to obtain the maximum benefit. Although our initial survey is now complete, to continue our efforts to bring you the products you need we'd also like to know what you think - for example does your skin feel softer? Please use our feedback form to let us have your comments. Make sure you look after your soap as well; this soap is quite pure so it will soften and dissolve more easily if you leave it standing in water in the soap dish. If you have any sort of negative reaction or are at all concerned do stop using the soap straight away and let us and your health care practitioner know.
